While I was in California I went to see some of the Chumash rock art at the Painted Caves in Santa Barbara. Most of the art was behind bars to prevent any damage, but after climbing the wall to investigate I managed to find this further up & out of sight.Considering it was over the entrance to the cave, I assume it is meant to act as a guardian throughout the night. I think it looks like a man - possibly a skull - wearing a headdress/helmet that seems to be offering light (flames from the sun), in hopes to scare the night away.Forgive the poor picture quality, it was taking on my Android phone on a foggy evening.
